Dissertation Planner - Editing and Proofreading: Editing and Proofreading

What’s the difference between editing and proofreading? How do you edit and proofread your own work effectively? See our Editing and proofreading guide for more.

When editing and proofreading your work, it's useful to think of your writing as a series of levels, or layers, with each one requiring its own attention. Look at our guide on Writing Layers for more.

It’s particularly important that each chapter of your dissertation is structured in a logical and coherent way. Try reverse outlining – it’s a great way to revise your work and troubleshoot any problems you might have with the structural flow of each chapter.

Don’t lose marks on your referencing! Run through your citations and your reference list again to ensure they are accurate and consistent. Refer to our Citing and referencing webpage for guidance on your referencing style.
