Hartley Library

The Hartley Library has a number of group study rooms (GSRs) available throughout levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The rooms have a variety of facilities, for example: PCs; electrical sockets; internet points and whiteboards. A selection have U-Touch touch screen wall monitors (4059, 4061, 5019 and 5025), 2D has two LED wall monitors and 5037 has a touch screen table linked to an LED wall monitor. There are further LED wall monitors in 1A, 1C, 2A and 3F.

Rooms 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 3D, 3E, 3F, 4059 and 5023 will accommodate a maximum of 6 students. Rooms 3C, 4061, 5019, 5025 and 5037 a maximum of 12 students.

Hartley GSRs

  1. Group study rooms are available for current students engaging in group study only, no staff or visitor usage of the rooms is allowed.
  2. Group study rooms can be used during library opening hours.
  3. Group study rooms can be booked for a maximum of two hours per group per day.
  4. Group study rooms can be booked two weeks in advance.
  5. Group study rooms are not available for individual study.
  6. Group study rooms should only be booked if you have the minimum number of people required and no more than the maximum stated for the room.

Booking a Study Room

To book a Group Study Room online please go to https://libcal.soton.ac.uk/reserve/hartleyrooms.  If you have any problems, please visit the Hartley Library Help Desk or email libenqs@soton.ac.uk   A University email address is required to book a Group Study Room.  We reserve the right to re-book a resource to another group, if a group doesn't arrive within 15 minutes of the booked time slot.

Hartley Group Study Rooms

  7. Please ensure that you follow the cleaning and ventilation guidance as shown on the posters in each group study room.

Hartley Library Quiet Study Areas

  • The Hartley Library offers a variety of quiet study areas on its five levels.
  • Two dedicated quiet study rooms on Level 5.
  • A quiet study area is located on Level 4 in the Turner Sims area of the Library

 

National Oceanographic Library Study Areas

The National Oceanographic Library offers a variety of study areas on its three levels.

Bookable Meeting Rooms

  • Located on level 5 of the library.
  • The Blue, Yellow, Purple and Red room can all be booked by sending an email to estates@noc.ac.uk or in person at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton Reception Desk.
  • The Green room is available to use without a booking.
  • An on-line booklet gives the details of all the bookable meeting rooms at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton including the meeting rooms in the library.
  • Each room has a large monitor and SmartBoard overlay.
  • Instructions explaining the use of the SmartBoard and other Audio Visual equipment are in a wall mounted holder in each room.
  • Each room has electrical sockets.

Quiet Study Area

The entrance floor (level 4) of the library is designated as a quiet study area in the library.

  • Electrical sockets are available in this area.

Silent Study Area

  • The lower floor (level 2) of the library is designated as a silent study area.
  • Electrical sockets are available in this area.
