The Digital Scholarship team, within the University Library, provides services for and collaborates on education and research activities that use technology to innovate in scholarship across the University. This can be through digitised and born-digital collections, the combination and reuse of collections data, contributing expertise on the use of digital tools and techniques, and offering bookable equipment and training.
The University of Southampton Library is home to notable and distinct print and electronic collections. The Digital Scholarship team collaborates with colleagues across the University and with other partners, to make many of our collections available online. You can search, browse and share items in our Digital Library and create an account to tag items and add annotations.
The Digital Scholarship team provide digitisation services to support and collaborate in education and research. We undertake a mix of on-going digitisation, collaborative project work and one-off digitisation for members of our community.
We have many years of experience creating high-quality digital copies of a range of materials including rare and fragile manuscripts, printed books, photographs, slides and artefacts. For large format material, for example maps or posters, we use an i2s Quartz A1 scanner. We have Zeutschel OS 12002 scanners for flat-laying material, such as books, that are A2 or smaller. We are also able to digitise 35 mm slides and 3D objects.
