UK Census

The UK Census is conducted and made available by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Census data is also made available to academic institutions via the UK Data Service. If you require data for use with GIS software you should use the UK Data Service.

Histpop makes historical census reports available from 1801-1937.

A UK Government body responsible for producing of a wide range of economic and social data and statistics for the UK. They also provide access to statistics from other UK government departments. Statistics for the regions and local areas are available in a separate section . If you require UK census data for use with GIS software this is available from the UK Data Service.

WorldPop develops peer-reviewed research and methods for the construction of open and high-resolution geospatial data on population distributions, demographics and dynamics, with a focus on low and middle income countries.

Mortality Data

Human Mortality Database (HMD) This link opens in a new window
Contains original calculations of death rates and life tables for national populations, as well as the input data used in constructing those tables, including death counts, census counts, birth counts and population estimates. The database is limited to populations where data are virtually complete, meaning that the countries included are relatively wealthy.
