Hartley Library: Getting Help

Level 2 Help Desk

You will find the Level 2 help & information desk in the foyer. During library opening hours the team can answer general enquiries about the building, lost property and help with access to the Library. 

During service hours the Level 2 desk team can also help with:

  • Issuing/returning items.
  • Renewing items.
  • Issuing and returning laptops and other equipment such as headphones.
  • User registration, including external membership and SCONUL access.
  • Questions about Group Study Rooms.
  • Loans and account related enquiries e.g. blocks, bills, suspensions.
  • Collecting Interlibrary loans.
  • Help locating resources and books in our collections.

The team acts as first point of contact for most questions but they may need to refer your enquiry on.

The Level 2 desk service hours are:  9am - 11pm seven days a week during term time. During the summer vacation the desk closes at 9pm.

iSolutions Helpdesk

iSolutions offer a helpdesk at Hartley Library, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

The desk can be found on the right after entering the library through the turnstiles.

Getting Help for Your Studies

Southampton Academic Skills Hub

The Academic Skills Hub, based on Level 2 in Hartley, covers a range of topics including:

  • Academic Writing
  • Critical Thinking
  • Information Management
  • Academic Integrity and Referencing
  • Presentation Skills
  • Exam Techniques
  • Research Skills

The Hub opens 10am - 12noon  and 2pm - 4pm Monday -Friday. You can just drop in for a twenty minute session with one of the team.

They also have a number of online modules from Skill4Studycampus for you to hone and develop your study skills at your own pace

Academic Engagement Librarians

Academic Engagement Librarians work across the university to support you in your studies. Visit your Subject Pages for resources related to your subject and details of your Academic Engagement Librarian.

The team run a range of drop in sessions to improve your results. These include:

  • Using WebCat and DelphiS
  • Dissertation preparation - finding information
  • Subject specific sessions run by your Academic Engagement Librarian.

You can book a session online using LibCal or just drop in on the day. You will also find the teams out in Faculties running Library2You  sessions throughout the year.
