The table below outlines the different loan types and the penalties for overdue items. These measures are to encourage everyone to return items on loan before they become overdue.
If you do not return books and they become overdue, you will not be able to borrow anything or place holds until those items are returned or renewed.
Different items have different penalties once overdue, this is depends on the length of the loan:
Loan type |
Overdue penalty |
Effective from |
Short loan (course collections) return by 11.00 am following day |
Library account suspended for seven days from date item returned |
As soon as item is overdue |
Equipment loan, return same day |
Library account suspended for seven days from date item returned |
As soon as item is overdue |
Long loan and one week loan (when recalled) |
Library account suspended for seven days from date item returned | Once item is three days overdue |
|
If an item remains overdue, it will be considered as lost and recorded as a university debt.
If the item you require is on loan or at another library, you can request it by logging in to Library Search.
Once you have found the item you need, you can select the option 'Place hold' on the item record.
The item will be recalled, and when it is ready to collect we will send you an email.
Holds are kept for for three days, please collect within this time.
