FAQs: IT Resources

  • What IT facilities and resources do you have in the Library?

We have PC workstations throughout the library, as well as 1 A3 scanner and 2 MFDs (Multi-Function Devices) which have a scanning function. If you want to use your own laptop then we have numerous power points in close proximity to study space.

  • How can I access library materials off campus?

A VPN (virtual private network) connects you to the University network, giving you the same access to the library's e-resources from home as you have on-campus. Information on how to set this up can be found on the isolutions website.

  • Can I print wirelessly from my own laptop?

Yes, it is possible to print directly to the MFDs from your laptop but you must ensure that you are connected to wifi through the eduroam service and are also connected to a VPN. Further instructions about how to set up wireless printing can be found on the isolutions website.

  • What is an institutional login?

Many of the resources which the University Library provides for you can be accessed with the same username and password you use for email, public workstations and Blackboard. Look out for links containing the words "Institutional access/login", "UK Federation" (or  occasionally "Shibboleth") – all these words are a clue that you can use your normal University login to access a resource.
