FAQs: Loans & Borrowing

  • How many books can I borrow?

Loans information, including how many books you can borrow, how to renew your loans, place holds, and issue and return books, can be found on the dedicated loans and borrowing pages on this website.

  • Can I borrow books from other site libraries?

As a member of the University of Southampton, Winchester School of Art staff and students can borrow from any of the site libraries in the University system.

If items are currently on loan, they can be requested onscreen via WebCat. If not, you can either borrow directly from the libraries or items can be sent up to Winchester for collection.

  • Am I entitled to Inter-Library Loans (ILLs)?

Yes, as an undergraduate you are entitled to place 2 requests each academic year, 5 for taught postgraduates and 15 for research students and staff. Requests should be made online by logging into WebCat.

  • How can I return a book when the library is closed?

If you need to return an item out of library opening hours then please contact us to make arrangements.

  • Can I visit and borrow from other libraries?

As a student or staff member at the University of Southampton you are entitled to apply for Sconul Access, which allows you to visit other academic libraries that participate in the scheme. In most cases Sconul Access users can also borrow stock held in the libraries that they visit. The website has plenty of information and includes details on how to apply.
