Welcome to the Library & Learning Commons

The Library & Learning Commons is located on the upper-second-level of the Avenue campus.
It holds the Humanities Course Collection (excluding Music), Language Learning Resources and a significant Film Collection.

Library & Learning Commons study areas

The Library & Learning Commons (Avenue Campus) offers a variety of study areas .

Quiet study areas

  • Located in the South Corridor of the upper-second-level, access to both our quiet study rooms (2083 & 2085) is well signed.
  • These rooms have a mix of desks with electrical sockets for laptops and charging points, a small number of fixed PCs, and some study desks with no electrical points.
  • There are also individual quiet study pods along the right side of this corridor.

Group study

There are many areas for group study within the Library & Learning Commons

  • The main resource rooms (2153, 2155, 2159) have desks which facilitate group study; there are also a number of group study pods along the North Corridor close to the Help and Information desk.
  • Bookable group study room (65/2087-South Corridor) - there are two bookable areas within the Group Study Room; each area accommodates up to 5 people and has an AV screen with laptop connections - there are no fixed workstations, please bring your own laptop. If you require audio facilities or are planning to use the space for an interview or film viewing, you should book both areas as these are not soundproofed; 2087A (door-side) and 2087B (window-side). Each area needs to be booked by a different group member. A loanable DVD/Blu-ray player is available at the L&LC Help and Information desk.

To book a group study area online please go to

  • A University email address is required to book these areas.  We reserve the right to re-book a resource to another group, if a group does not show up 15 minutes after the booking time.
