This guide is designed for everyone - from new students to research staff - in the Faculty of Medicine, and anyone else who needs to use medical information resources.

Working with EndNote

EndNote Desktop

You can install EndNote desktop on you own computer via https://software.soton.ac.uk

Store and work with your library on the hard drive of your computer - not in the cloud (e.g. not in OneDrive).

Save your EndNote library inside its own folder called “EndNote” – this keeps all the files together.

Save a 'back-up' of your EndNote Library called a Compressed Library in OneDrive (Office 365) for the University of Southampton.

Importing a new referencing style

The EndNote style for Medicine at Southampton is Vancouver_SotonMED2016.  This style follows the BMJ Vancouver style

Follow the instructions to install this style on your own computer (PC or MAC) if it already has EndNote installed.

  1. Download the style above.

  2. Double-click the style file. It should open in EndNote.

  3. Within EndNote, go to “File Menu” and choose “Save As”.

  4. Replace the word “copy” with your style’s name and click “Save”.

  5. Click on “File Menu” and choose “Close Style”.
