Online training is a collection of short interactive learning activities with quizzes to reinforce what you have learnt. These activities will help you build and develop the essential skills you need to successfully find key library resources to complete your coursework, assignments or projects.

Watch the video first and then go to the activities. Depending on the information you need, you can choose to do the activities either in the order given or as you need them ..... and remember you can come back and re-use them as often as you like. Don’t forget your headphones! Allow approximately 8 minutes to complete this learning activity.

By the end of this activity you should be able to:

  • identify the different resources on your reading lists
  • use tools and approaches to find resources from your reading lists

Library Search provides a one-search interface across all of our library online and print content.  Select “Help” to access quick and advanced guides.

  • recall how to search for and access books, e-books, and individual journals

Search strategies

Allow approximately 16 minutes to complete this learning activity.

By the end of this activity you should be able to:

  • explain what a search strategy is
  • identify key concepts and key words in a search question
  • use search tools and techniques, such as Boolean operators, phrase searching, and wild cards

Allow approximately 7 minutes to complete this learning activity.

By the end of this activity you should be able to:

  • recognise the difference between 'good' and 'bad' information
  • think critically and understand how to find good quality, reliable information
  • know how to get more help if you need it

  • understand what referencing is and why it is important
  • understand when you must reference
