Introduction for people new to the library


Welcome to the University of Southampton Library!

The Library has five different sites.  
University students and staff are entitled to use the full range of specialist collections, service and facilities each site.

Your University ID card is also your Library card so you can use the Library from day one.

Help is available through our Libguides pages, in the Library or via chat.  
Ask us if you need further information... We are here to support your studies and your research.  
If you are not a member of the University further information can be found here on our membership page.

Finding Articles and Borrowing Books

WebCat is our traditional Library Catalogue, useful for searching for books and electronic books (ebooks) held by the Library. Our helpguides below display best in Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

DelphiS is our discovery tool, useful for searching across WebCat and for full text journal articles.

Subject Guides

Subject guides are the place to start if you need help or resources linked to your area of study.

Training and Workshops

The library online training introduces you to search techniques that you can use to find books and journal articles. Advanced online training demonstrates how you can improve your searching skills and use more advanced library resources. Both give guidance on searching databases and information on how to evaluate the resources and data that you find.

There are a wide range of face to face training and workshops which will support you in your studies and help ensure that you make the most of your time at university. Take a look at the Training and Workshops to see which are most appropriate for you.
