The Academic Skills Service hosts events and provides bespoke support to develop key skills on your academic journey. Use this page to learn more about our drop-ins or submit a help form online.

Essays. Presentations. Exams. We know that university throws a lot at you. It can sometimes feel like you don’t know whether you’re coming or going. Good news! We’re here to help.

Dissertation Pop-Ups. Friday 12 November 11:00-13:00 B85 Foyer. Friday 22 November 11:00-13:00 B58 Foyer. Friday 29 November 11:00-13:00 B100 Level 4.

The Academic Skills drop-in is in the Academic Skills Hub, Hartley Library, in Room 2045. It is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm - 4pm. The Maths and Statistics drop-in is on Wednesday from 10am - 12pm in the Academic Skills Hub. The Writing Cafes are on Monday and Friday, from 2pm - 4pm, in the Lounge area of Building 38.

Just for peace of mind, requests for academic skills support are not discussed with or divulged to your faculty/teaching staff.

Learn about our events

You can discuss any aspect of your academic skills needs with the team, from time management and critical thinking to assignment planning, understanding feedback and editing. (Note: if you require specialist help in maths or statistics, we suggest attending the Wednesday drop-in instead.)

When and where: Tuesdays and Thursdays (1-4pm) in the Academic Skills Hub, Hartley Library.

A specialist advisor is available to discuss any queries you have regarding maths and statistics.

When and where: Wednesdays (10am-12pm) in the Academic Skills Hub (Hartley Library ground floor).

This is a dedicated space to get to work on your writing (and enjoy a complimentary drink). Feel a sense of community, purpose and productivity! Please bring along whatever items you use while writing (e.g. notebook and pens, laptop, headphones, scrap paper and markers, or so on).

When and where: Mondays and Fridays (2-4pm) in the Lounge Cafe, Building 38.
