Call for participation: Library’s 2nd Summer Art Exhibition

Dear colleagues

Following a hugely successful inaugural launch last year with the Student Experience Directorate (SED), the library is extending its invitation to submit artwork to our second summer exhibition to everyone in our university. This year’s theme is Connection.

We would like to showcase and celebrate the varied talents that can be found across the University of Southampton’s community, using the theme Connection. Through the creation of artwork, tell us what ‘Connection’ means to you. Draw from your experiences in the workplace or at home. People and the connections we make across research, education, knowledge exchange and enterprise are at the heart of the University's strategy and triple helix model. This was why we chose this theme for this year's exhibition.

The artwork can be in any form of your choice. Last year's submissions ranged from creative writing to crochet. Your work can be a group submission or an individual piece.

We will display submissions in the exhibition space in the Level 4 Gallery in Hartley Library, from 7 July to 15 September 2025. We may need to be selective, if space constraints mean we can’t display all submissions.

The closing date for the library to receive all artworks is 30th May 2025, so you have plenty of time to get creative.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in participating or wish to talk to a member of the Library Engagement Team, even if you don’t have a specific work in mind right now. Our email address is libenqs@soton.ac.uk, please use the title, Summer Exhibition 2025. We will send out submission forms in April to all those who have contacted us.
