Library Exhibitions and Events: Into the Fold 2025

The University of Southampton Library offers a varied programme of events and exhibition across its sites.

Into the Fold: Artists' Book and Zine Fair 2025

Connecting collections

This event includes an opportunity to view our Artists' Books Collection, which was founded in the 1960s. Since then it has grown and developed to include a wide range of books in many formats, shapes, sizes and materials. British artists' bookmakers are particularly well represented in the collection, and we hold works by artists such John Bently, Sarah Bodman, John Dilnot and Helen Douglas. The collection also includes books created and designed by University students and staff.

You can browse the collection via Library Search.

If you would like to view the collection, but can't attend Into the Fold, or if you have any questions, please email us at libenqs@soton.ac.uk

About

Winchester School of Art is pleased to invite you to Into the Fold 2025, the University of Southampton's second Artist Book and Zine Fair, a free event showcasing artwork by local students and regional artists for sale.

Event Information

Into the Fold will feature stalls from artist book and zine makers from across the UK including WSA students, staff and local artists.

Over the two days, there will also be tours of two exhibitions: Glitchy Kinship curated by Dr Elizabeth Reed in The Winchester Gallery and Nonsuch Memory of My Birth Artists’ Books by artist, Joshua Raffell in the WSA Library gallery space. In addition, there will be an opportunity to attend an introduction and handling session on the Artists' Book Collection at WSA Library, printmaking activities, a talk by James Macdonell from Library’s Digital Scholarship Team and a performative event with artist Sebastiane Hegarty.

Events and tours places will be limited due to space - details on how to book these sessions will be shared with all registered attendees nearer the time. Booking is not required for Silence on Loan or the printmaking activities.

The event will take place on the University of Southampton's Winchester campus on Park Avenue across two days.

Please note that there will be many items for sale by the artists who created them. Some stalls will accept e-payments and others cash. There are cash points in Winchester city centre about 10mins walk away from the event.
