Erica the Rhino (2013)

Scanned with kind permission of the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton.

An interactive art exhibit, Erica is a cyber rhino made as part of a collaboration between Marwell Zoo's GoRhinos campaign and the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. She responds to people being nearby, signals her mood by lights, sounds and movements and you can connect with her using your smartphone.  She can be found on Highfield campus in the New Mountbatten Building (Building 53).

A sculpture of a Grevy’s zebra, covered in illustrations of animals, all of which are endangered species in Britain.

Zebraversity the Zebra (2015) by Smock & Ballpoint

Scanned and animated with kind permission from the artist.

A sculpture of a Grevy’s Zebra, originally created for Marwell Zoo’s Zany Zebras sculpture trail and sponsored by the University of Southampton’s School of Biological Sciences. Look closely and you’ll see that Zebraversity is covered in a coat of animals, all of which are endangered species in Britain. This creates a tangible link between the threatened nature of the Grevy’s Zebra and the UK’s native species.
