  • Articulate what is meant by academic integrity and plagiarism.
  • Articulate the rationale for referencing, be able to create a reference and be aware that there are different referencing styles.

  • LO2 - Develop scientific writing skills, making use of library resources to support your writing
  • LO4 -  By completion of a compulsory online academic integrity assessment, you will have learnt and know how to employ the SOES protocols associated with referring to the work of other authors in your own pieces of work, i.e. producing reference lists, citing/acknowledging other authors' publications in your written work.

When you use information from sources such as books, journals, webpages, film or other materials you need to show where the information came from and where the reader of your assignment can locate the sources if necessary.

  • find out which referencing style you must use

Which referencing style should you use?

At the University of Southampton schools or departments recommend which style you should use in your work.
