The Hartley Library is the main University Library and also home to the University Archives & Special Collections.
As well as five floor levels of printed books and journals our collections offer extensive coverage of online journals and over 86,0000 e-books.
We offer several hundred computer workstations in the building, plus the Library is covered by the wireless network.

Whether you use Webcat or DelphiS you will retrieve call numbers and locations to enable you to locate materials on the shelves of the Hartley Library. These two listings will help you understand which level you need to go to. Once you know your level you can consult floor plans for an exact location.
The Library can trace its origins back to 1862 when it started as the library for the Hartley Institution.
Our University charter was granted in 1952.
We hold around 2.5 million volumes.
There are 34,000 journal titles, mostly in electronic form.
There are almost 450,000 electronic books.
There are over 2,200 study spaces in the University Libraries.
There are 165 Library Staff, 124 FTE.
Every faculty has dedicated librarians to look after the needs of staff and students.
There is no fines policy – overdue books result in users being blocked from taking out books for specific lengths of time.
