Copies of all core and background texts given on the module reading lists will be available either electronically (online books can be accessed through Library Search) or in print.  Details of textbook provision is given in more details on the Student Resources pages.

If specific journal articles or book chapters are needed for teaching we may be able to scan them and add to our digitised course collection. Note copyright restrictions apply and it is not normally possible to scan whole books.

Suggesting new books etc.

Academics wanting to order new Library resources, either electronic (eBooks) or print books, for the ‘Library/Study Space’ should fill in the Library Resources Request Form  or contact your Librarian by emailing

Note – we cannot send print books from the libraries in the UK to Malaysia.

However, you can use our increasing collection of online books  - which are useful for both research and teaching. Search these collections via Library Search.

You are welcome to use the libraries in Southampton if you are in the UK. Please liaise with your Academic Engagement Librarian before taking books out of the UK – you are required to return books within 1 week if needed by another user.

Inter-Library Loans

For some older journal articles our only access may be print volumes held in the UK. When based at Malaysia you have a special privilege to make ILL requests for items held in print and are not available online.

  • Copyright restrictions apply – you may only request one article per issue of a journal, or one chapter of a book (or extracts up to 5% of either).
  • Your ILL quota will be reduced by 1 per request as normal. You can request for your quota to be increased if needed (contact your  library contact or email
  • Please add the word ‘Malaysia’ to the Comments field of the ILL form when placing a request.

Remember ... you may also make an ILL request for items not held in any format at the University of Southampton.  Please note however, we cannot send whole books or journal issues to Malaysia.
