Supporting Staff: Requesting resources for teaching

Welcome to your Reading List support page

Here you can find all the information you'll need to successfully create and manage your online reading list

This year the Reading List rollover will take place on Thursday 5 June 2025. As part of this process, the Reading List team will be copying 2024/25 reading lists and generating new 2025/26 lists. Please DO NOT make your own copy as this will lead to duplicate lists. If you have any questions regarding the Reading List rollover, please email libenqs@soton.ac.uk

The Academic Experience

How easy is it to request a digitisation for your list?

Reading List submission

Ensure your lists are published and sent to review in time for the library to order the necessary resources.

You need to allow a 6 week lead time to guarantee the arrival of new books for the new semester.

  • Semester 1 - lists should be published and sent to review by August 15
  • Semester 2 - lists should be published and sent to review by ...
  • Semester 3 (summer teaching) - lists should be published and sent to review by no later than May 16

Reading List digitisation requests

The library offers a digitisation service for teaching material. Requests can be made from within your online reading list.

Once your request has been digitised, it's linked direct to your reading list for easy student access.

How much from a book or journal can I request for digitisation?

  • One book chapter or 10% (whichever is greatest) per book per module

  • Two articles or 10% (whichever is greatest) per journal per module

The service includes all necessary checks to ensure your requests comply with the University's CLA license; including attaching the necessary cover sheet, reporting to the CLA and all eligibility checks.
