Research articles with a University of Southampton submitting corresponding author should automatically be included in the agreement. All research articles in all ACS journals are eligible, including ACS Omega, JACS Au, the ACS Au collection, and all ACS hybrid journals. This agreement is available to current University staff and students; visitors are not eligible.

The submitting corresponding author should follow these steps on acceptance:

  • STEP 1. Once your article has been accepted, you will receive an email from ACS asking if you prefer or need an open access option. To publish open access, select the “click here” link in the email. The link will take you to RightsLink where you can request funding through your institution. Select the seek funding option.
  • STEP 2. At the “Pay Author Charges” screen, select “Next” to start the 2-step process of accepting ACS Terms and Conditions and then submitting your order. Note: You will need to log in with Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) to complete the process. If you are not registered with CCC, you will need to create a new account and sign in. Your registration form is pre-filled with metadata from ACS. ACS collaborates with RightsLink® from CCC, which collects funding from your institution to pay open access and other article publication charges on behalf of the publisher. For ACS Choice journals you will see the message Our system has identified that your institution/funder has an agreement with ACS which allows you to retain copyright and publish under a CC BY license. Do you want to publish open access as per the agreement?” Please select Yes.
  • STEP 3. Select “Submit for Approval.” You will receive an email confirming your request. That’s it! Your steps to receive open access funding are complete.
  • STEP 4. You will receive a confirmation email from CCC (no-reply@copyright.com) once your request is approved. The published article will indicate the selected public use license to let readers know it’s open access.
