Oxford Academic logo

This agreement is available to current University staff and students; visitors are not eligible.

Open to all University of Southampton corresponding authors publishing a research or review article, received into OUP production on or after 1 January 2021, in hybrid and fully open access journals listed on the OUP Read & Publish agreements page.

See the author workflow below or downloadable pdf to ensure your article is included. The 'prepayment' account you need to search for is UK Institutions (Jisc Affiliated). If you are offered a choice of licence, please select the CC BY licence rather than CC BY-NC or CC BY-ND.

We have a recording of a University of Southampton OUP webinar and slides explaining the author workflow.

I’m an eligible author, what do I need to do?

Please follow the steps below or download the step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Once your paper has been accepted for publication, as the corresponding author you will receive an email with a link to OUP’s online licencing and payment system.

Step 2: Log in to sign your licence to publish and choose an Open Access licence. [Please note, you will be asked to confirm that you will pay the Open Access charge but you will not need to pay the charge provided that your eligibility is confirmed by the University. If you are unsure, please email eprints@soton.ac.uk before choosing the Open Access licence.]

Step 3: Proceed to payment and select ‘UK institutions (Jisc affiliated)’ from the dropdown list of institutions beneath ‘Open Access Prepayment Account’ on the Article Charges page.

Check the ‘Refer Charge?’ box next to the Open Access charge, and then click ‘Refer Charges’ at the bottom of the page.

Provide the information requested on the ‘Confirm Address’ page and complete the request. You will receive an email confirming that your request has been sent.

Your request will be reviewed to verify that you are eligible.

Any other charges applicable to your article, i.e. page or colour charges will not be included and the University cannot cover these.

Step 4: You will receive an email when the verification process is complete and the Open Access charge has been paid.

Applies to articles received into OUP production by 31/12/2023 (please note that national publishing caps may be in place in 2022/23).
