These transformative agreements and open access memberships provide open access at no cost to the author. Please note that former members of staff and visitors cannot benefit from the agreements/memberships.
Please note that we do not have a central institutional fund for open access payments that fall outside of these deals; the University of Southampton supports open access via self-archiving your Accepted Manuscript in Pure.
Additionally, we do have discounts with some publishers, but these do not cover the entire open access cost.

Open to all University of Southampton corresponding authors. Includes 900+ SAGE Choice subscription journals in the current SAGE Premier package, the IMechE Journal Collection and the Royal Society of Medicine Collection, which offer hybrid open access publishing.
The deal does not include fully open access titles, but corresponding authors are eligible for a 20% discount in the open access cost (APC) for Sage fully open access journals.
Please note all authors should still complete the steps to sign SAGE’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement on acceptance as normal. SAGE still requires this agreement for your article to proceed to production at SAGE. Through the SAGE Open Access Portal, you will automatically receive an open access Contributor’s Agreement that will replace the earlier signed agreement. Please select the CC BY licence.

|Wiley and AGU||
From 01/01/2021, open to all University of Southampton corresponding authors submitting original research and review articles. However, at some point during 2021 (date to be confirmed by Wiley) this will change so that only UKRI and Wellcome funded corresponding authors are eligible.
UPDATE 18/05/21: The Wiley deal will be restricted to UKRI/Wellcome Trust/CRUK/BHF/Versus Arthritis/Parkinsons UK/Blood Cancer UK funded authors from 1 July 2021. For other funders and papers that do not acknowledge a funder: articles in fully open access journals submitted by 30/06/21 will be included; articles in hybrid journals accepted by 30/06/21 will be included.
The deal provides a capped number of credits across participating institutions in the UK and will end when all credits have been used.
We will only approve articles that have a CC BY licence rather than CC BY-NC or CC BY-ND
This covers the open access cost (APC) only, we cannot fund any additional publication fees or excess page charges.
