Open access at no cost to University of Southampton corresponding authors for research and review articles in Elsevier hybrid journals. This agreement is available to current University staff and students; visitors are not eligible. Please select the CC BY licence rather than CC BY-NC or CC BY-ND as this is required for the Library team to approve your article for open access under the agreement.

Includes articles accepted for publication 01/01/22-31/12/25 (1 year extension to the 2022-24 agreement signed September 2024).

Steps for Authors

  • In Editorial Manager, when you have uploaded the manuscript files, make sure your Institution is set to University of Southampton and add the funder details if applicable. Click on 'Build PDF for approval' and select Gold open access. The "To pay on acceptance" box should have a total of 0.00 with the wording “As an author affiliated with the University of Southampton, after acceptance and on validation, the UKRI JISC Elsevier Transitional agreement will cover the APC”. If it shows an amount to pay, please let us know before proceeding and we will check.
  • Please select the CC BY (Creative Commons Attribution) licence option on the next screen.
